How John Rand works

We are a studio, not a body shop, not a deck factory. Engagements are project-shaped. Ownership runs from craft through production.

Built to finish the thing

Symptom first. Tell us what’s going wrong day to day, not the diagnosis you were sold. We dig for the root before we prescribe a build.

One studio owns the handoff. Design and engineering live in the same house so the product doesn’t die between vendors.

Selective by design. Quality peaks when attention isn’t fragmented. We take on fewer engagements: work we can do at a high standard, and that we’re genuinely interested in finishing well. Not every project is a fit.

Believable scope. We take work we can own and finish. Boutique depth beats a capability laundry list.

What we say yes to

A good fit

Project-shaped builds with a real outcome. Hard constraints we can excel at. Problems that are interesting enough to hold our attention through delivery.

Usually not a fit

Staff augmentation, “anyone can do it” commodity work, pure cost-shopping, or briefs where craft can’t matter. We’re happy to say so early.

  1. Intake

A short conversation about symptoms, constraints, and what “shipped” means for you.

  2. Root & shape

We find the underlying problem and propose a scoped engagement with clear edges, clear outcome.

  3. Build & ship

Craft and production under one roof until the thing runs in the real world.

  4. Handoff that sticks

Operability, documentation, and a cutover you can live with, so the work doesn’t bounce back as mystery debt.

Start with the symptom.

No pitch theater. A conversation about what needs to be built, and whether it’s work we’d take on.
